The Preventx in-house laboratory is accredited to international standards, allowing us to carry out high quality STI tests with quick, reliable results.

Sexual health dedicated and fully accredited

The Preventx in-house laboratory is a UKAS ISO 15189 accredited medical laboratory (no. 7568) and adheres to a strict quality system.

We only process our own tests, from our own sampling kits and with a focus on sexual health. We don’t process tests for anyone else, so no other work is more important or higher priority.

Preventx is the only digital sexual health service with its own in-house laboratory, and we have developed and evolved our processes specifically to test the small samples that are produced through self-sampling. For example, we can carry out up to six tests on a single finger-prick blood sample, plus confirmatory testing and assays such as quantitative RPR.

Preventx is also regulated by the Care Quality Commission (1-6150510784).

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England. They monitor, inspect and rate services to make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care.

The Preventx laboratory is currently accredited to test for:

  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • HIV
  • Syphilis antibodies (EIA/TPHA) and RPR
  • Hepatitis B surface antigen and core antibody
  • Hepatitis C RNA
  • Hepatitis C antibody
  • Trichomonas vaginalis
  • Mycoplasma genitalium

Newly expanded laboratory

We have more than doubled the capacity for equipment and staff, meaning we can perform thousands more tests every day; and allowing us to expand our testing to include new assays, such as Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) and Mycoplasma genitalium (MG).

Our users have told us that waiting for results can be one of the most stressful parts of testing and this expansion has enabled us to turnaround results even faster for users.

Outstanding quality

Quality assurance is at the heart of everything we do, embedded through all of our systems, processes and working practices.

Preventx follow the national standards recommended in PHE SMIs, and the ‘Standards for the management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs)’, as published by the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) – where possible, with minor variations based on the low-volume nature of self-sampling services.

Preventx has completed the NHS Data Security Protection Toolkit and is registered with the ICO. Patient information is collected, stored and processed securely and consent to process data is obtained in line with GDPR requirements.
