Preventx is the only digital sexual healthcare provider in the UK with a dedicated in-house laboratory.
We only process tests from our own sampling kits, with a focus on sexual health.
We don’t process tests for anyone else, so no other work is more important or higher priority.
We have evolved our processes specifically to test the small samples produced through self-sampling. In fact, we can carry out up to six tests on a single finger-prick blood sample.

Our tests
The lab team carries out most testing on the Roche Cobas 6800/8800® and the Roche Cobas e801 systems, as well as a range of manual testing.
We use gold-standard tests recommended as the first choice of test by the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV.
Our lab is currently accredited to test for the following infections.
- Chlamydia
- Gonorrhoea
- HIV
- Syphilis antibodies (EIA/TPHA) and RPR
- Hepatitis B surface antigen and core antibody
- Hepatitis C antibody
- Hepatitis C RNA
- Trichomonas vaginalis
- Mycoplasma genitalium
Outstanding quality
Quality assurance is at the heart of everything we do. We follow:
- UK Standards for Microbiology Investigations
- British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) Standards for the Management of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
- BASHH Self-Sampling Recommendations
There may occasionally be minor variations from some guidelines based on the low-volume nature of self-sampling services.

Our laboratory is a UKAS ISO 15189 accredited medical laboratory (no. 7568) and adheres to a strict quality system.
Preventx is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (provider number 1-6150510784). The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England.
